The number of Canadians killed by police officers since the start of this year has risen to more than 60.1,936.
This compares to 53,821 in 2016.
More than 7,000 of those killed by officers since 2011 were killed in 2017.
This is up from 3,724 in 2016 and 3,065 in 2015.
The number of officers killed in the line of duty rose from 10,890 in 2017 to 11,636 in 2018.
In 2018, there were 1,547 officer-involved shootings and 581 officer-uninvolved shootings.
There were more than 1,100 fatal police-involved shooting incidents in 2018 compared to 1,060 in 2017, 1,038 in 2016, 1.3 in 2015 and 1,009 in 2014.
The majority of officers who died in 2018 were shot while on duty.
More than 2,500 officers were killed by a gun, but the majority of those deaths were not fired.
Police shootings in Canada have continued to be controversial.
It has been suggested that Canadian police are using lethal force in cases where they have been unable to prove the shooting was justified.
Canada has seen a sharp increase in the number of police officers who have been shot during a confrontation.
On the night of June 16, 2018, a man was fatally shot by a Toronto officer after he reportedly ran into a street corner to try to get away from a group of youths.
This followed the death of 22-year-old Daniel Pantaleo, who was fatally injured by a police officer during a police pursuit in Toronto on February 1, 2019.
At the time, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said that Pantalee’s death was a “tragic event.”
The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police called the shooting “unprecedented” and said officers should “never be the target of any type of confrontation.”
It also criticized the department’s decision to allow the officer who fired the shot to return to work.
Saunders said he was “heartbroken” that Pantalys death “had to come about” and he expressed his condolences to the family.
According to the police union, there are more than 600 officers in the Toronto force and officers are being sent home after being involved in a shooting.
A report commissioned by the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General found that the department had failed to provide the public with adequate training about the use of deadly force.
During the 2017-18 financial year, the Ontario Police Service had a record of 1,735 officer-related fatalities.
Since 2013, the department has had a total of 596 police officers on administrative leave.
